From: Chris Dear Mr. Messenger, I read with interest your comment on your Naim preamp in the introduction on page 2 of the Oct-Dec 2015 issue, and in particular your comments in the last paragraph fought for my attention: 'Now that tone controls have lost their audiophile credibility....'. This being your assertion, How can you justify having a preamp that retails at £57k that only switches between inputs and changes the volume? Moreover, this can only degrade the sound, or am I missing something? I have an LP12 with a Urika, the output of which is line level. I have a simple volume control plus box wired up to it, cost ~£25 and which renders a preamp unnecessary. When compared to the Klimax preamp there was no doubt which was better. Needless to say I never did buy that preamp. I have a rhetorical question, which is in jest so I hope you will not be offended, but: Are you completely off your head? Best Regards, Chris Smith. From: Carl Thank you - payment made - I also have an online sub to hi fi news and regularly buy the other magazines - HFCrit is head and shoulders above the rest. Not sure why I bothered with HFN as it seems to really lost it substance of late. HF+ has too many reviews and no articles - HFW has gone into a vinyl black hole and HFChoice seem to be loosing credibility fast. That was my quick Sunday morning round up ! Thanks Martin. From: Nick Hi Martin, I cancelled this for next year's payment as there doesn't seem to be any method of changing the payment amount and we don't want to go through having to top-up the amount again as I've just done. I presume you'll let me know when my subscription is about to expire at the end of next year and I'll renew then using whatever options are available at the time. It`s a pleasure to read your materials! I'm very curious about your opinion on several manufacturers, that i have never seen being reviewed in the magazine. It would be great to read a review of Vitus Audio components, and why not Chord Cables - since you are in the UK, a Naim lover, and Chord Sarum is very popular among Naim users... In the end, how do you think, will the Magico S5 match better with D'agostino Integrated or Vitus RS 100 / SIA 25? There are people in love with both setups, but i`d like to know your opinion. As an aside, I so appreciate the work you and your fellow contributors bring to your publication. The articles are carefully thought out and cover many topics of interest for me. As a hobbyist who, over the last several years, has taken a deep dive into this hobby, traveled all over the world for audio shows, and spent a silly amount of money on equipment and music, yours is the most credible audio journal to which I subscribe. From: Matt HI Martin Just wanted to let you know that my sub cancellation is not because I'm unsatisfied, just because I'm moving abroad and won't be able to enjoy the magazine. When I do have a chance to start subscribing again, I'd like to see a focus on the mechanical and fragile - speakers, turntables, valve amps etc. Your recent forays into computer audio have been cringeworthy for an IT geek like me, and I just skip past anything about cables and supports, but I still love what you do! Since the time when I read your rave review of the Sennheiser IE800 in Vol8.No.3 issue I've been using my Sennheiser IE800/Sennheiser HDVA 600 headphone amplifier combination. I think it sounds so good, but I'm still interested in the Trilogy 933 amplifier though I've not yet have the chance to hear one. I read your article on the Naim nDAC in a past issue and recently purchased one off ebay.
