Readers' Feedback 2015-16
Dear Mr. Messenger,
I read with interest your comment on your Naim preamp in the introduction on page 2 of the Oct-Dec 2015 issue, and in particular your comments in the last paragraph fought for my attention:
'Now that tone controls have lost their audiophile credibility....'.
This being your assertion, How can you justify having a preamp that retails at £57k that only switches between inputs and changes the volume? Moreover, this can only degrade the sound, or am I missing something?
I have an LP12 with a Urika, the output of which is line level. I have a simple volume control plus box wired up to it, cost ~£25 and which renders a preamp unnecessary. When compared to the Klimax preamp there was no doubt which was better. Needless to say I never did buy that preamp.
I have a rhetorical question, which is in jest so I hope you will not be offended, but: Are you completely off your head?
PS Keep up the good work, it is by far the best hifi magazine around.
I will do the payment now.
Thanks for a wonderful magazine, that sets itself apart from the rest.
Best regards, Henri
Continue your great work with hificritic. I am always looking forward to it.
Yours sincerely, Marc
I read the blog and some articles and very much like them.
I work for AudioT
Keep up the good work, it is by far the best hifi magazine around. Oh no, payment failed ! Thanks for the notice, then!
I’ll take care of that again - it’s my favorite magazine!
Thank you - payment made - I also have an online sub to hi fi news and regularly buy the other magazines - HFCrit is head and shoulders above the rest. Not sure why I bothered with HFN as it seems to really lost it substance of late. HF+ has too many reviews and no articles - HFW has gone into a vinyl black hole and HFChoice seem to be loosing credibility fast. That was my quick Sunday morning round up ! Thanks Martin. Money transfer complete.
Keep up the great work at HiFi Critic.
I will cancel my underpaying PayPal order now – I understand you will contact me again in a year for next year’s sub. I keep track of my anticipated payments – so don’t worry if you forget. I will set up a regular payment for £65 annually in Dec 16. PayPal is clunky it seems.
Thanks to you and all the others for your hard work and critical appraisals which I enjoy and value. Compliments of the season,
Regards, Alastair Gordon
The last edition of your excellent magazine I received was Vol 9 / No 2 July - September 2015. I wanted to ensure I hadn’t missed an issue
Please let me know.
I cancelled this for next year's payment as there doesn't seem to be any method of changing the payment amount and we don't want to go through having to top-up the amount again as I've just done.
I presume you'll let me know when my subscription is about to expire at the end of next year and I'll renew then using whatever options are available at the time.
Love the magazine, especially the technical and history stuff.
Fantastic, thank you for your flexibility and support.
I look forward to receiving the hard copy issue.
Keep up the awesome work!
Dear Mr Colloms,
I would like to thank you for your work. These days there are less and less objective reviews, and still - you are as reliable as ever. It`s a pleasure to read your materials!
I'm very curious about your opinion on several manufacturers, that i have never seen being reviewed in the magazine.
It would be great to read a review of Vitus Audio components, and why not Chord Cables - since you are in the UK, a Naim lover, and Chord Sarum is very popular among Naim users...
In the end, how do you think, will the Magico S5 match better with D'agostino Integrated or Vitus RS 100 / SIA 25?
There are people in love with both setups, but i`d like to know your opinion.
Thank you and all the best!

Well this is a treat, Martin. Thanks for your message. Both addresses work but the P.O. Box address is preferable.
As an aside, I so appreciate the work you and your fellow contributors bring to your publication. The articles are carefully thought out and cover many topics of interest for me.
As a hobbyist who, over the last several years, has taken a deep dive into this hobby, traveled all over the world for audio shows, and spent a silly amount of money on equipment and music, yours is the most credible audio journal to which I subscribe.
Please keep up the great work and I’ll continue to look forward to every issue.
All the best, Joel

I hope you are well?
Not sure what is happening, however, I do not appear to have received the last few issues of the Hi Fi Critic magazine. I am sure I have a fully paid up subscription. Can you please check for me as I would not like to miss any issues of this brilliant publication. Thank you in advance for your kind help.
Just wanted to let you know that my sub cancellation is not because I'm unsatisfied, just because I'm moving abroad and won't be able to enjoy the magazine.
When I do have a chance to start subscribing again, I'd like to see a focus on the mechanical and fragile - speakers, turntables, valve amps etc. Your recent forays into computer audio have been cringeworthy for an IT geek like me, and I just skip past anything about cables and supports, but I still love what you do!
I'm a long-term regular reader of your excellent magazine. Since the time when I read your rave review of the Sennheiser IE800 in Vol8.No.3 issue I've been using my Sennheiser IE800/Sennheiser HDVA 600 headphone amplifier combination. I think it sounds so good, but I'm still interested in the Trilogy 933 amplifier though I've not yet have the chance to hear one. Could you please send me your listening impressions of the the 933 compared to the HDVA 600.
Best regards Kiyoaki
Thank you for the reminder Martin. I have resubscribed. Could you please restart my subscription with the April-June issue - I haven’t received this one. Thanks for the consistently brilliant magazine.
Super pro. magazine. Very Compelling review / critic. It's my inspiration in audio World. Continue. God Bless You, Sir. !
Thanks, Martin, Being a newbie, I didn't know when dispatch was likely.
The magazine is excellent; very informative and wide ranging. I read your article on the Naim nDAC in a past issue and recently purchased one off ebay. Coupled with an XPS power supply and linked to my CDX2 player, the uplift has been spectacular, exactly as you said.
