With Neil Young in London last weekend playing Hyde Park, Omniphone, the music download company based in West London’s Brook Green announced that it would deliver higher resolution recordings to Neil’s Pono music player.
PonoMusic service, which aims to launch in the US, UK and Canada before the end of 2014, is a music player ecosystem that includes the PonoPlayer, the PonoMusic app, and a social music store. Pono aims to revolutionise the popular perception of digital music quality and allow fans to hear and feel the music, ‘experiencing the way the artists created it in the studio’ by offering higher resolution music files.
Standing at 35 million tracks, MusicStation - Omnifone’s cloud music platform - hosts the industry’s largest catalogue of high resolution content, obtained from rights holders in all corners of the world.

Pono aims to begin shipping more than 15,000 PonoPlayers to its Kickstarter backers soon. The players retail at $399. High-resolution digital albums are anticipated to cost between $15 and $25. With the support of high profile artists, Pono raised over $6.25 million on the leading crowdfunding website, Kickstarter and Pono is the third most successful campaign in the history of Kickstarter.
