On the 28th and 29th May, running until late in the evenings, KJ hosted a London showroom launch of the Naim Statement amplifier driving the Focal Grande Utopia Be for invited guests, KJ customers and the Press. On a secondary display the new MUSO all-in-one was also demonstrated by Ryan Latham, Naim’s marketing director.
Managing directors no less, of Naim, Paul Stephenson and Focal, Gerard Chretien were in support, presenting and demonstrating.
I managed a later personal listening slot on the Thursday evening. Long enough to learn the unfamiliar room acoustic and begin to enjoy the manifest abilities of this combination. The connected Naim Statement pre power showed that the pairing could time well, in part thanks to the highly extended 18Hz low frequency bandwidth of the Grande Utopia which minimises group delay. I played seven tracks, sufficient to show the abundant musical qualities of the combination, the exceptional, wholly stress free dynamic range, and very good recovery of detail and depth.
Realistic dynamics were well within the compass of this exceptional system which used an NDS, PS555 as the source streamer and a CD555.
