Is this where I have to tell you all about me? Well, something, anyway.

I have listened to HiFi for the last 30 odd years on Sugden and Quad kit.

I bought a Sugden A48/T48 in 1978 instead of a Quad 33/303. The Sugden drove a pair of 10" Tannoy Dual Concentrics (Cheviots?) till 20 years ago when (while in Germany) I bought a pair of Quart 980s loudspeakers which I still use in the lounge.

I bought my first CD player about the same time - a Philips CD204, if I remember correctly - and ditched the deck and the LP collection. Too much to carry around the world on army trucks!

In 1996 I bought a Quad 77 CD player and Integrated Amp and shortly afterwards the tuner. I still have that kit.

For my lounge I now have a Beresford Caiman DAC driving a Quad 405-2 bought on eBay and upgraded by 405man. It drives the Quart 980s tower loudspeakers which still sound extremely fine. The source is a Squeezebox Classis. This kit is in transit to a large bungalow in Nicosia, Cyprus.

The Quad 77 Integrated Amp with matching CDP and Tuner? I will sell the lot and buy some small active monitors to go with a Squeezebox for my Southampton Flat; or I will keep the amp and buy suitable passive speakers - Harbeth P3ESR?

But first I have to wait for my some to move out and take his AV kit with him.

Brian

In Southampton: my son's Marantz AV amp in Super Direct mode with B&W 684 (Not good!)
In Nicosia: Quad 405-2 refurbished by 405man - Quart 980s German Tower Loudspeakers.

Are you an astronomer, Darkmatter?

But it's those retro thermionic valves off to the left that worry me.

Hi,

Yes a very keen amateur; nearly took Astronomy at Uni but took Engineering instead a few years later

Simon.

How is Nicosia these days?

My wife's family are originally from there. But for some reason we have ended up in Hastings and Crete.
