What would you use with the above? a friend has aquired a pair S/H I was asked this but would be interested to read other vews/opinions. Budget £750 or so "Quicquid Nitet Notandum"

Not sure if you can find one but probaly the best match I have heard with those speakers was an original Krell KSA 50 Pre . If you can find one second hand then £750 should be about right . To save on costs you can use it with a passive and this you can make yourself as a single source very easily until you can save up for a better pre amp.

(The only difference, I believe, is the option for balanced inputs on the newer model.) These deliver 200 wpc into 8 ohms and 300 wpc into the Maggies' 4 ohm load.
