What would you use with the above? a friend has aquired a pair S/H

I was asked this but would be interested to read other vews/opinions.

Budget £750 or so Smile

Not sure if you can find one but probaly the best match I have heard with those speakers was an original Krell KSA 50 Pre . If you can find one second hand then £750 should be about right . To save on costs you can use it with a passive and this you can make yourself as a single source very easily until you can save up for a better pre amp.

I know many folks (including myself) who use Outlaw 2200s with Maggies (from the MMGs, to 1.6s to 3.6s).

The previous model 200 might also be found on the used market.
(The only difference, I believe, is the option for balanced inputs on the newer model.)

These deliver 200 wpc into 8 ohms and 300 wpc into the Maggies' 4 ohm load.
