setting up Gradient Helsinki 1.5

having much fun messing around with this intriguing loudspeaker, could not be more different form the common herd.

The mid and treble is fairly consistent but you can iterate listener and speaker position almost all over the room and get different but still plausible results.

It may well be a problem solver as it does not excite room bass modes much and there is little leakage to adjacent rooms or properties.

Still getting my head around the appearance!

I am looking forward to your views on this speaker. In relation to other OB speakers I am seeing it looks a little "under-woofered". I understand that you end up using a far more efficient bass driver in relation to the other drivers than normal but I have usually seen a couple of bass drivers or some eq in the crossover. I think OBs are such an obvious answer to the question of making a cabinet inert- again understand you still need the baffle to do its job. To be hopelessly unoriginal could I suggest sand filling the baffleSmile

regarding the Helsinki baffle it is a massive affair , multiply and plate glass and seems to be nicely inert.

not !

good to 40 , maybe 35 in some rooms but not enveloping

the bass is natural

ie to hear 40 Hz it needs to be loud enough to be greater than the threshold of perception

not like pressure bass which waffles around building levels even when fairly quiet

The Helsinki will be a boon to flat dwellers, much less floor reaction impact and much less bass pressure leakage.

The Helsinki 1.5 passed muster vol 6 no 3

not a value thing , but it just works , very easy to live with with good timing

for modern apartments there is not much else that controls room effects so well and looks the part.
