I don't know if that would be possible to do, or of interest to many, but I've often wondered about the effect of the cartridge body on the sound. Koetsu, for example, has a range of stone bodies (at various expensive price points), that all share the same innards as far as I know. It might also be the same with their wood bodied cartridges, but I am not sure. It would be nice to test a range of cartridges with the same generator/cantilever/stylus and compare the effect on the sound of the different body materials.

Hereticallly speaking here could be more variation between the build of the generators than the effects of the different bodies.
Cartridges samples can be less consistent than loudspeakers, and variation for the latter is now rarely spoken about or admitted by manufacturers.
the BBC and then KEF were majors on consistency, pair matching, and the latter aspect has clear connection with aspects of sound quality.

MartinC Interesting. The stone cartridges start at around $5k (if I am not mistaken) and end at around $20k (US list prices), but, as far as I know, all share exactly the same innards. The price difference would be totally related to the body material, so basically, one would be paying all that extra for cosmetics!

We don't like bright, irritating sounds and if you had read the copy you will know it is so Myself, Malcolm , Paul , Chris , and Tony are in general agreement on this. Cheap throw away comments are not helpful, lets have some facts, or is it just a general moan? MartinC

If you don't like bright sound be glad you don't live over here! I have been using British speakers since the mid 60s and mostly British electronics since the same time because I find them less bright than others. Most of the systems I hear over here are too bright for my taste, I tend to like mine a little more distant in perspective than many apparently do. I haven't had a Naim since the days of the 160 but have only stayed away because of cable issues.

perhaps vintage equipment. A review on a pair of Voight corner horns with pre war energised drivers (field coil) would be right up Paul's street.

Yes, or how about a nice Thorens TD124 up against a modern LP12. Or a Rogers A75/A100 amplifier against a modern Cyrus 8. Mirroring a few comments above I too like to read about vintage kit and how it relates to and works in a modern system and indeed an all vintage system. I too have an interest in vintage and unusual speaker systems.

I think Martin misunderstood my earlier suggestion concerning CJ ("classic" and other) and G. Croft.
It was a suggestion to review these equipment, not to include them in the "Best" list.

A friend of mine who builds and restores tube gear deals with this company. This DAC looks like it might be a good deal; I am currently trying out a V-DAC and if I keep it will get a Little Pinkie power supply. But this looks like an alternative. a bit deep for this late in my working day............
of course I must like this products I like or they won't get a good report .
I hope I like them because they are good and not just because I like them.
The latter possibility leads me away from reviewing and towards madness.
But maybe reviewers are mad too try and do what they do in any case.
