I reviewed the BC1 and LS3/6 for Haymarket Popular HiFi ( became What Hi Fi) in the early 1970s
The 3/6 got the higher rating for a truly glorious mid-band while generally to the BBC and Spencer Hughes standard for neutral timbre.
Both the original BC1 and the 3/6 bass-mids had die cast 8inch chassis( the Rogers sourced from Richard Allen), and plasticised PVC surrounds supporting hand doped, critically flared Bextrene cones with light , paper , 8 watt RMS voice coil formers which sounded lovely but which burned on rock.
Much dedication went into the voicing and balancing which was favourably compared with the Quad electrostatic at the time.
I do not think that some aspects of these speakers have been equalled since............
Who knows what the new Stirlings may offer, but almost no component will be the same. By definition they cannot sound the same but could
nonetheless be of comparable overall quality.

I have an early BC1 and can attest to that pure magical midband, but never did get to hear the 3/6 Edited by user 11 June 2012 21:52:51(UTC)
