Sorry to be serious but I hope everyone is OK after the recent (and ongoing?) riots? In my bit of South East London we are OK but there are things going on within a few miles. Its not changing the way I go about my day but it pays to be sensible......a good chance to stay in an play some music!!!

I've been contacting friends and family as I grew up
In Camden and Croydon.

Everyone is OK but I may have a lot of visitors this weekend here in hastings as they all want to escape London for a while.

Without wishing to trivialise the recent events, one of the consequences of all this can effect the music lover. The big warehouse burning in North London was the Sony music distribution warehouse that handles CDs etc. They also handle distribution for a lot of small indie labels. The loss of this stock could be catastrophic for small labels.

Just recieved the e-mail flyer from 4AD a small indie label

Quote:
As has been widely reported, we were affected by the warehouse fire in Enfield earlier this week where our entire UK stock was lost along with stock from numerous other labels and film and computer game companies.

For a full statement on the unfortunate event, please check the Beggars Group statement here. Suffice to say, we, and the independent film and music community, have had better weeks.

However, it's business as usual for 4AD. Fortunately, none of our forthcoming releases have been compromised by this needless act and thanks to a monumental effort from our staff and various partners, our current CD catalogue should still be on the shelves in all good UK record shops. Back catalogue items and vinyl stocks, however, might take a while longer to replenish.

Not a good week
